Tks Randy for a source of that 1969 green paint. Quite a story; I'd think
though as formulated for "full scale" locos, it was a bit thick
for H.O. shells!
Which puts me in mind of a tie between the Burlington & John Deere (would be
great to see if anyone has a slide of one of the new
U-Boats in "69 with a flat car of Deere equipment behind!). In 1966, Deere
released an album to ag dealers called "Songs with a RR
Ring" (Columbia Special Products [Div. of Columbia Records] #CSP 251). The
cover features Q #307 in Chinese Red pulling a Q flat
followed by 2 OTTX flats, all loaded with new Deere combines & tractors. Deere
was promoting "Power Train '66" (on a placard on
front of loco). This is undoubtedly the highest priced record with a Q
connection on the used market. You have generic collectors of
odd L.P.'s, Deere Collectors (as fanactical or more so than RR collectors) and
of course Q fans all pursuing a record sold out in the
country; i.e. not to many copies in N.Y.C. or L.A.! I'll bring a copy to
Oregon in April for our spring BRHS meet. Gerald
*color photo on cover is NOT credited but I assume taken around Quad Cities by
Deere photog. BAck cover has small b/w pic of
kerosene hand lantern being held on end of loco with "Power Train '66" on
globe. Songs, all RR classics, include artists like Johnny
Cash, Flatt & SCruggs, Nre Christy Minstrels, Bob Dylan(!), Johnny Horton, etc
- 12 in all.
