In it's heyday, St. Louis Union Station was busiest
terminal in the US, in terms of intercity traffic (it
only had limited commuter traffic). Not only was St.
Louis a major railroad gateway, but ALL railroads
(except the IT) used Union Station (not like Chicago
or NYC). In the 20's there were over 200 arrivals and
over 200 departures, every 24 hours. It was a very
busy place, indeed!
