There is a pix in one of the GN books that I have of an early "Great Domed
Empire Builder" before the full length dome lounges have been delivered. It is
shown operating with the Great Dome Coaches (3), and a "Mountain" series
observation car on the rear, serving as the first class lounge until the Great
Dome
Lounges enter service.
