It is true that 4960 is down for something. It was supposed to be the power
for our train on Sept. 5, but was informed by person at ticket office that it
was taken out of service two weeks before due to a cracked something. Either a
driver or rod. A welding repair was contemplated but crack was too deep. I
heard two different stories, therefore did not post any thing due to rumors. A
replacement is in the works, either driver or rod. 4960 will be operational
next spring as well as # 29.

I had not heard that, but that doesn't make it untrue. The Grand Canyon
Railway operates the 4960 and a Consolidation so you won't be out of
luck in riding behind steam even if the 4960 is down. Check the Grand
Canyon Railway's website at www.thetrain.com for curent schedules and
information. They do not operate steam in the winter.
