Steve,

Yes, that is true. They was also one on the yard lead between the
track one switch and the crossing. There was not one on the East
side of the crossing on the extension.

Gates could also be key actuated with a metal box that was on the
bungalow on the North side of the tracks East of the crossing. Not
very useful for a crew using the South Wye and I doubt many even
knew it was there. Would have proved most useful to the IHB crews
but their switch key would not fit. Was much bigger.

Don't know if you remember but the unlock at the South Wye switch
would only work if the "island" on track #3 was occupied. Many a
time a crew would try to be nice and clear Maple Ave to let traffic
by and then discover that they could not get the unlock. From the
office, if it was not raining or snowing, you could see the flashers.
If the Dispatcher told me they were having unlock trouble the first
thing I would do is go outside and look down the street at the gates.
Quite a few times I had to go down there and prove to the crew that
the crossing was their unlock problem. Would not take the Dispatcher's
word for it.
