John,

I only remember ore trains heading for Litchfield from Concord. When you say
they went to Granite City via East Alton, do you mean via the Beardstown - St.
Louis Sub-division? I don't remember seeing ore trains through Chapin. I do
remember working Concord when ore trains would come up the Arenzville hill in 2
and sometimes 3 sections. Was a helper engine still in service at Frazier
after 1951 to help get heavy trains up the hill?

Bob

This has been on the list before. The Q hauled GN & NP
ore jinnies, down the "Peavine" to Galesburg, then via
Bushnell to Beardstown. From Beardstown they went to
Granite City Steel via East Alton. They also (prior to
1957), went to Litchfield via Concord. They were
interchanged there with the Litchfield & Madison,
which took them on to Granite City.
