These units (the only F-3s without dynamic brakes on the Q) retained their 
original 9900-series numbers until trade-in, but were re-painted into the 
paint scheme - I no longer have my date data, but believe the regearing and 
repainting was in the early-to-mid fifties.  Unless you were in a position to 
look down on the units, the only way you could tell them from the other 
greybacks was by number -
