Marshall suggested, logically, that what might have made a powder car was
the use of steel sheathing to prevent sparks from starting car on fire as
was often the case with all wood cars.
The OER entry has no specs except 28' with 30 ton capy - same as rest of
series of box cars from 1 to lower 4000's. ARe the only cars without specs
for whatever reason. As capy is same as the others, I assume little if any
steel added as would reduce capy - somewhere maybe one is lurking in
background of a photo of an early Q loco. Too bad it wasn't til relatively
recent times that railfans took photos of something other than locos!
