You are essentially correct. The "square" cross-section has a slight "draw"
or taper (probably to prevent any tendency to cut the metal while forming),
but this taper is too slight to detect in any common indoor modeling scale,
so go with the square/square equivalent. One thing you will notice in clear
photos of older Zephyrs is the appearance of a seemingly heavier line at each
five flutes. This is where the narrow (nominal 9") strips were joined,
making a slightly more noticeable flute. With the introduction of fluted
letterboard spaces (1939 with the GPZ) sheet width was increased to full
letterboard height.
