Here's the final details of the RR Days Train Show @ Carl Sandburg College.
25 layouts and displays.
81 Vendors from 20 states, a new record!
320 vendor tables, a new record!
Some random thoughts for hard core Q railfan/modelers.
YOU MUST SEE.
Howard Bixler's O scale CB&Q O-5 with full anamation. If you haven't seen
this locomotive, you have really missed out. Howard only shows the loco four
times each year and we are pleased to be one of them. This item will be here
Sunday only. Location will be in the upper hallway leading to the library.
We are also pleased to have Duane Buck of Sedona, Az with us this year.
Duane has been the winner of the modeling contest at the NMRA national
convention on three occasions in the diesel locomotive catagory.
He will have several of his prize winning models with him and the
accompanying trophys. Buck models GN (remember they owned 50% of the
Q) and is modeling chairman for the GN Historical Society. This display will be
there both days and will be in the College Library. He plans to spend much of
the time at the display and will be more than pleased to visit with other
modelers, Fair warning, HE IS A RIVET COUNTER! But that's how he wins.
Great guy.
Weather expected to be perfect, and there is not going to be anything other
than routine operations by the BNSF at the Depot this year. Museum will be
active as usual and we are making a real attempt to make up for the lack of
participation by the railroad.
Five dollars contribution to the Scholarship Foundation will buy you a 2
two day admission. Parking will be tight as they have moved the carnival onto
the campus and thus reduced our parking. Maybe you might want to consider
parking downtown and taking the free shuttle bus to the Campus.
One more item of general interest. Several of the modeler/railfans are
planning to have dinner Saturday evening at the STEAK HOUSE on North
Henderson Street. Ain't cheep but the food is great. It is located on the East
side of the street across from Wendys, which is much cheaper, but not as
good.
Dave Lotz will have the BRHS table in the same place as last year, across
from the dining room in the bay window. Mr Brown from Iowa City will be there
with Dave. Randy McDaniel will be located out by the gym. He just may have
the new CB&Q caboose book with him,
Another display of interest is the show of Illinois railroad depot photos which
have been collected by Gerald Peterson of Avon, Il. It is a comprehensive
collection and the photos are all mounted for display. They are arranged by
county and you can trace the stations by rail line if you know your Illinois
geography. Gerald will be in the music room across from the refreshment
stand in the PE/Fine Arts building.
Since I don't have time to post this info elsewhere, I would appreciate some of
you to pass this info on to others boards with large membership who might be
interested in these thoughts and might be able to join us this weekend.
Vendors start arriving shortly, off the the College. C-ya this weekend.
