Per system ballast records, The W/B main was slag applied in 1943 &
reapplied in 1951. Prior to "43, from Riverside to Harlem had been gravel
ballast, one of the very few places with such ballast on the 3 track
raceway. The Middle & East mains were the same except never had gravel at
