I second Dave's choice. There's nothing that screams "Lines West" like
those salt boxes. There's a standard feel to them all, but there also are a
variety of sizes, roof profiles, bays, and degrees of ornateness from which
to choose, if you're going to build a model -- ranging from rather plain,
compact structures like Grover, CO or Angora, NE to grander ones like
Wymore, NE or Edgemont, SD; and then there's that distinctive group along
the O'Neill branch in Nebraska, with its own "branch of the family"
appearance (see BB 27 for the full story on that group). Now all we need is
some drawings, ... ANY drawings ... of any of those structures. I suppose a
kit is out of the question.

Hey! Now there's an idea for a poll -- though how to set it up to be
open-ended (i.e., responses not restricted to listed categories) could be a
problem. Anyway, here's The Question -- What models do we as Burlington
fans need most? Obviously, you've already got my vote (above) for the
"structure" category. For "locomotives" (steam), what I think we need most
is some decent secondary power -- i.e., not another S-4 or O-5, but
something that would be appropriate on branchlines (or mainline) with
shorter trains. My first choice would be one of the Q's vast fleet of
distinctive and never-modeled "big" prairies, i.e., an R-4 or R-5, but I'd
be almost as delighted with an Atlantic or ...?. As for "rolling stock,"
the biggest gap I see is in heavyweight passenger equipment. We sure could
use some 6100-series coaches, although I think my personal vote would be
for a good, standard baggage-mail car, maybe an MB-18 or something of that
vintage. I'm not picky.
