Sounds like if you departed from Union Station, it was either the Burlington 
Route, or the Milwaukee Road to Kansas City. There your train would have 
been turned over to the Union Pacific to Ft. Riley, KS.

So if you can recall the stations across Illinois, you could piece together 
your route.
