Just to compare operations and show that everybody didn't do it the same way.
On the RI, in my time, road passenger trains originated at 51st St. Coach
yard.
These trains were taken to LaSalle St. by the road engine crew, originating
at the 47th St. Rocket House and a switchman pilot. The head end cars were
normally taken from 51st St. to 12th St. via a switch move (known as a BAG
DRAG)..These cars would be sorted for loading at the Barney House (near
twelfth street) where they were loaded..Then they would be taken into La
Salle St. where the depot switcher (one RI and one NYC) would place them on
the respective trains.
Arriving road trains were backed to 51st. St. by the road engine crew and a
switchman pilot.
