Not necessarily, Pete. I have a B. A. in Modern
Languages, and taught for several years, and I am
familiar with the Myth of Sisyphus.
I don't remember the details, but as I recall the
myth, Sisyphus had committed some wrong and was
sentenced to roll a large stone up a hill. He did so,
but when the stone got to the top of the hill, it
rolled down the other side. He was sentenced to do
this until the stone stayed on the top of the hill --
which, of course, it never did.
Thus the title "Sisyphus's task" would be given to any
chore that would be difficult if not impossible to
complete.
