Recently acquired the IC checkers' book for East Dubuque for last 1/2 of
1959. Following is a summary of what the Q was giving the IC and/or the IC
giving the Q as well as Q MoW trains parked on the Q house track for
anywhere from a day to 2 weeks - interesting for modeling & prototypical
consists.
In the 6 month period the Q gave to the IC or vice-a-versa, 50 cars
representing 15 railroads & 5 private owners/subsidiaries. There were 14
CB&Q, 11 IC, 4 PRR, 3 CRI&P, 2 NP, 2 UP and one each EJ&E, C&NW, IHB,
Reading, NYC, CLW (have to look that one up!) plus 1 BREX, 1 MDT, 1 NRC, 1
SHPX & 1 SERX. Or from another angle: 19 boxcars, 8 reefers, 6 flats, 4
gons, 3 hoppers, 2 stock & 8 undertermined (poor handwriting by the
agent/clerk or just blank). Frt was always on the Q's house track, MoW
usually on IC's house track.
Loads inc. Q gon #79870 blacktop; PRR gons 359752 & 612836 with steel for
E. Dbq High School; RI box 39616 with bagged cement; Q box 35440 with steel
for Adams Co (Dbq); C&NW box 6342 w/lumber to or from N.J.; Q stock 53056
with stock from Aurora (Montgomery) & NP stock 82733 with stock from St.
Paul (both going, separate days, to Dubuque Pack no doubt which slaughtered
sheep, hogs & beef.
Work trains inc: Kennedy Welding crew with Tool cars #210887 & 207797;
Bunks 212204 & 210326 and tank 205967; a B.M. Colling crew with Bunks 210200
& 209860 and tank 205886; a J. P. Malay crew with Tank 205435, Shower
#210082, Tool #209935 and Bunks 210424, 210481 & 210624 plus the WFEX reefer
with ice was moved over to them (#67422); later 2 cars joined this 'train',
Ice #239513 & Tool 208017;
and R.D. Bale train of Tools 212430 & 205738 with bunk 209938. Also, later
one hopper of stone/ballast (221587) and later a flat of co. matls
(machinery) #208058. Last a Mr. Gleming came in with a ditcher train:
ditcher #911; flat 20820, bunk 210484, combine car 209979; bunk 212398 and
tool 210424. WIll have to get out my slides but think that 'combination'
was a combo tool/bunk. Lastly scale car #204739
stopped by. As none of these MoW bunks/tools/shower were 250000 series,
they were all converted boxcars.
And this bit of info is a belated Christmas gift to all on the list -
Season's Greetings!
