The name "CB&Q" did not come into existence, even on paper, until Feb. 14,
1855. Completion of the line to Burlington (actually E. Burlington as a
ferry was used til Aug 13, 1868) was on Mar. 17, 1855 and Quincy was not
connected to what became CB&Q until Jan. 31, 1856. That was the 1st time
one could travel by rail from Quincy to Burlington, albeit via Galesburg.
Depending on whether your old fragment is newsprint or card stock, it "may"
have been an ad or broadside announcing the 1856 milestone. But as is a
fragment, the best I can do is an educated guess. Gerald Edgar
