There has been discussion in the past on the effect
the Menk years had on the CB&Q. Mr Quinn from the
CMStP&P was no better. He sat in his office and spent
most of his time harassing the Employees about The
United Way.

Just got to looking at Mike Spoor's "CB&Q In Color,
Vol 3", A book filled with excellent photos and
an excellent job of layout with every page containing
pertinent information and images.

On page 88 there is a shot of a train sitting on the
Westward Main Track in front of the Pacific Jct depot.
The next track to the right is the Eastward Main Track.
This is a 1968 image.

If Mr Murphy had seen those track conditions there
would have been a new Division Engineer the next day.
For that matter Mr Greenwood or Mr Grinstein in a later
day would have had the same reaction.

This is 1968 so there is no place for the "coal trains
ruined the railroad" myth. At that time the East End
was not much better with flange marks on every angle
bar and crossings filled with mud.

Soapbox has now been put away for a while.
