As a matter of fact, I do know a little about the Yak
Fat Rate Case, but it goes back to the 50's. It
started as a practical joke with industrial traffic
managers. I believe it began with Rath Packing Co at
Waterloo, IA. Old man Rath was on the IC Board of
Directors and made no secret of his dislike of
regulation by the ICC. Much to everyones surprise, the
ICC give approval of a rate on Yak Fat, Yak Butter,
and other Yak By-products, NOIBN (I just had to throw
that in! I've been waiting all week to do that), from
Waterloo to points in eastern states. An IC Iowa
Division Trainmaster filled me in on the case, many
years ago. That was Back in the days when I had the
Operating Dept. idea that all traffic men were nuts.
Of course, now I know that SOME are not!
