Nate,
This line ran down through my hometown of Washington, Kansas. The
depot was saved there and at Morrowville too. I believe the tracks
were pulled up about 1983 or so. I photographed my first locomotive
1967 about 1/4 mile east of this depot. CB&Q 431(SD9)..now BN 6178,I
believe. BN allowed me to photograph this locomotive again in
Galesburg back about 1989 as I was wanting to build a model of the
depot and the locomotive for the Washington County Museum. I do have
one of the original bricks from the pad out front of the Washington
Depot. Please see photo of this depot in the Files Section of this
group.
CB&Q 710, built in Havelock, about 1905 or so used to run down this
line to Concordia. It is now beautifully preserved outside the
Lincoln Depot as part of the Haymarket display. It sat out at
Pioneer's Park for many years before. I used to run down to the
tracks when I was a youngster and wave at the crew on 710. Many years
later, I met the fireman over in Belleville working a switch engine
at the elevator. He remembered a young boy always down there waving
at the train.
The South Platte Press has an excellent book on the Wymore line that
you might wish to check out. Jim Riesdorf was the author. Hope I
spelled his name right from memory.
I wish you well in finding additional info on the Concordia part.
