Steve:
You are correct, signal bridge 123.41 was 3 track, and dates from at least 1931
at that location, and was taken out in 1967 when signal bridges were respaced
west of bridge 119.18 for CTC. The original Signal Valuation records don't show
this bridge but show 2 track bridges placed new in 1918 at MP 122.9 and 123.3.
This is probably an error, since it's likely that the 100 and 83 car sidings
that existed in the late 20's were also there in 1918, and they interfere with
the placement of 2 track bridges.
Also, after a more thorough review, I think the capacities you listed for 1927
might have been based on 36 ft. cars, as I notice the timetables for 1929 show
a car length reduction to 97 and 75 cars, which is about the difference you
would expect between 36 ft. and 40 ft. cars.

My 1966 track chart shows a signal bridge at about mp 123.4 and it spans the
westward pass

Thanks Steve, for the information out of the 1927 timetable. These lengths are
the same as listed in early 30's timetables. The location and length of sidings
shown on alignment charts of the same era suggest that the capacities at
Neponset are based on 40' cars. If the 100 and 83 capacities existed from 1918
to 1924, then the siding locations conflict with 2 track signal bridge
locations listed on the Signal Valuation Records, some of which are suspect.
Verifying the sidings helps to verify the correct signal bridge location.

Timetable No. 52 June 5. 1927 shows
Westward 100 other tracks 79
Eastward 83 other tracks 79
Problem is I am not sure it it would be 36 ft or 40 ft car lengths

If someone on the list has a Chicago & Aurora Division timetable from
before 1924, could you look up and tell me what capacity is shown for
the Westward and Eastward sidings at Neponset? I'm looking
specifically for the years between 1918 and 1924, but I will take any
information that someone might have. Thanks in advance.
