List,
Gerald Edgar was good enough to offer to share his ballast info with the
group and I have a post requesting specific info from him on the way. . .
Which got me thinking . . .
I have some general questions for the list on ballast. Keep in mind I am
modeling 1969.
Where did the ballast come from?
How was it shipped to the 'Q? By that I mean what type of car (gon, hopper
( size?), or ore car) AND did a few cars of it just get picked up at a
quarry or off a connection and mixed in on a regular freight train, or was
a ballast cars only train run?
Where was the ballast brought to and/or distributed from? In other words,
were a couple cars dropped at certain areas along the line or was there a
sort of "ballast stockpile" somewhere and it was moved to various locations
as needed?
What all was in a ballast train besides the ballast hoppers . . . or was
that it? Or were the ballast cars part of a work train?
How many cars would be in a "ballast train"?
Any info the group can share on this topic would be appreciated.
