I think you are right about the R-4. I think I should point out that the gon in the photo appears to be an all steel drop bottom model. These fell out of favor by the late teens because they corroded easily when used to carry coal. From that I would guess 1920s or earlier. This fits with the R4 since most of them did not survive into the 30s except on work trains, locals etc. I'll keep looking for depot photos but I don't have anything yet. -Zeke |
