I purchased one of the Stewart U25B's about two weeks ago and now
have it running on my layout. It is great! I went ahead and spray
painted the handrails using Scalecoat II Chinese Red in the spray
can. I didn't quite care for the molded color. I also painted and
added coupler lift bars (they are a pain, Stewart put the inside
holes a little too close to the coupler pocket - takes a little
trimming on the inside lift bar brackets), and air hoses (the actual
coupler lift bars were black, so I painted the brackets, but used
Blacken-It on the lever - looks fine). I have yet to add the nose
light and shrouded horn, but these are coming soon. Another problem I
found is that the front and rear handrails are not correct for the Q
since Q uses a solid handrail without any drop step pass through. I
am looking into a way to redo these later (any suggestions would
help), as I wanted to get the unit running on my layout.

I had a broken handrail when I opened the box, and when I called
Stewart about it the first thing they asked me is: Would you purchase
another CB&Q U25B if we came out with it in a different road number?
I said "hands down, yes". The Stewart rep told me that they are
pretty backed up in the paint shop right now with the new BLW DS-4-4-
660 coming out, but it sounds like they are considering doing another
Q U25B number very soon. I agree that it should be simple to number
these ourselves. We should let Stewart know if this is our
preference. On the other hand, it may be that Stewart has found that
people in general want numbered units, what with the small decals on
the number boards, etc. Either way, it looks like Stewart is
definitely thinking about doing another Q U25B.
