Worn wheels on a brass engine can mean two things. (1) If the wheels have a
grove worn in the tread or the flanges have been worn scientifically then
the engine has been used for a long period of time and the bearings should
be checked for wear. This engine can be brought up to par with replacement
parts. (2) If the worn wheels only consists of the plating on the wheels
being showing wear in spots but no other appreciable wear, then this
condition is not to bad. The plating on wheels is very thin and will be
removed by friction on the rails or someone using an abrasive to clean the
wheels. Wheelsets can be replated or replaced or if the engine runs good
just forget about it. Eventially if you run the engine very much the plating
will begin to wear.

Just a quick question - how much is performance affected when a brass
model has WORN WHEELS, as dealers often write. Should I suspect a bad
running engine or is it not that bad?

Thanks for your help!
