What's changed is that no one remembers the old adage. "The only thing new

I recall several years ago that on the Rock Island and other roads "new"
management came up with a brilliant new idea...Let the local conductor be the
"manager" on the branch lines. He could decide what to do with cars made mty
which could be utilized for loading at another station and who gets priority
switches and what cars should he wait for etc etc.
This was being done in 1958 when I was braking on "Lines West""and I'm sure
"from the beginning" on most lines. It only makes common sense. Something
that "new" management seems to be lacking in and recently rediscovered.
