Not all passenger service was turned over to Amtrak in 1971. Even on Class
One's a number of short-haul operations weren't turned over. Several
long-haul passenger trains weren't turned over the AMTK (DRGW's Denver-Salt
Lake City; ARR's Anchorage-Fairbanks; SOU's Washington DC-New Orleans were
notable exceptions). At the other extreme they didn't bother with the Great
Western Railway's mixed train between Loveland and Longmont CO.
