Many, and of those (like PRR on some divs) were iron oxide - it was partially to protect against the ash content in the smoke. My guess is (and not remembering much) you'll see this far more on a coal burner, and if on oil, it wouldn't have to be IO, it could be any color.

red I think. Any other roads have different color cab roofs like Burlington
