Leo,
I was lucky enough to be able to inspect the cab of 5629 last August. I had
emailed ahead to the good folks at Golden that I wanted to take pix of the
interior of the cab for my own collection....absolutely no commercial stuff
involved. The cab looked pretty good, with all of the glass/stuff intact.
Having not seen the Wyoming engines, I think 5629 has the best appearance of
all of the preserved Burlington steamers (with the possible exception of #35 in
St. Joe) that I have seen.
In my discussions with the folks at Golden, they indicated that the
firebox/boiler of 5629 was in pretty bad shape as indicated in in a previous
message.
That said, she looks pretty darned good otherwise. With all of the surviving
Burlington oil burners still around, all I can say is when I hit the lottery,
look out!
Regards from San Diego and very respectfully,
John Lewis

John,I didn't swing by any of the retired engines this trip. A couple years
ago I did visit the Colo. RR Museum and spend time with the beautiful Q
engine there. I wonder if that donation stipulation forbidding the operation
could be overridden/waived some day?!
