On the former C&S there is nothing specifically referred to as "Trinchere
Pass". A hill of substantial duration exists from a point at Trinchere,
CO., MP 250, to MP 265 .7 which is only 1.7 miles beyond the Colorado /
New Mexico boarder. The steepest part of the grade is 1.17% near MP
259.6. The grade averages 1% or greater for its entire length and
includes numerous curves of 6 degrees or greater.
The most difficult part of the hill lies between MP 265.1 and 265.7,
right at the top. At this location a locomotive encounters reverse
curves with 6'-02" and 6'-05" respectively with a flange oiler between
them.
The RR continues to undulate its way to Des Moines, NM. which is the
highest point on the RR. From Des Moines the track decends
approximately 2000 ft. in the next 57 miles to Texline, TX.

Hi group:
Can anybody give me the "Cliffs Notes" on the grade(s)
up and over Trinchera Pass in sou. Colorado/northern
N.M.?
Where does the hill start on both sides and crest at?
Not sure what the grades are either.
Thanks! Have a good weekend.
