Recently I was having a friendly discussion with another railfan when the
subject arose as to whether or not the C.B.&Q. ever had a series of wooden
box cars that incorporated both outside bracing and truss rods. Neither of
us could identify any particular XM series as being a candidate. However,
it seems to me that over a year ago this subject was briefly addressed by
the list and someone mentioned that they had seen drawings for such a car.
Will anyone confirm this one way or the other? If such a fascinating beast
did exist, will anyone tell us where images of it can be found? It seems to
me it would make a great model. Accordingly, it would also be interesting to
learn whether any other railroad had cars with such an interesting
combination of details.
