Marshall,
If I'm not mistaken that was the year she was involved in the collision
somewhere near Douglas, Wyoming. I was one of the kids scheduled to get a train
ride in Casper that year and it was cancelled. I'm still disappointed and
haven't quite gotten over it:-(

>From Lloyd Stagner's "Burlington Route Steam Finale" -

"The 4960 joined [the school trip schedule] on April 27 [1963] with a Kansas
City-East Leavenworth jaunt, then moved to St. Joseph, Council Bluffs and
Aurora, Nebraska. Moving to the far western portion of the system, trips
with the Mikado ran out of Alliance, Sheridan, Billings,Thermopolis, Casper,
Scottsbluff, Sterling and Ft. Morgan. It was then on to Denver for a Rocky
Mountain Railroad Club special to Colorado Springs May 11 and Fort Collins
May 12, before working school specials out of Denver May 13-15 . . ."

(During 1962 and '63, CB&Q President Harry C. Murphy directed an extensive
schedule of "Choo Choo Specials", intended to give school children of the
Burlington's service area a feel for the days of steam. This is the "school
trip schedule" referred to above.)
