Regarding Streamliners.
I thought the program was very nicely done. Coverage on the Q was great and
there were some neat scenes.
My complaint however is always the same!
Why are programs regarding rail travel in the US always ending on such a
negative note? The program made it sound like the passenger train is
completely dead. I bet today alone from coworkers I will get comments along
the lines of -- "why are the railroads dead?" "Too bad there are not
passenger trains anymore."
True, the wonderful domeliner trains of the past are gone, but I have ridden
many trips on today's passenger trains where patrons are excited when the
train rounds a corner and you see the locomotive. Or when standing on the
platform, the horn of the approaching train is heard in the distance. The
reason "railroads" are dead in the minds of the non-railfan is we as railfans
and "historians" seem to paint a humdrum picture of today!
The program Streamliners could have used about 2 minutes to show some
positives on today's travel. Some shots of the Coast Starlight meals. Or
the current Cal Zephyr in Byers Canyon. . .
