John,UTLX has had std paint scheme of yellow and gold since they gave up the
white on red w/the divestiture from Standard Oil (I have to get out
Rockefellers Secret Weapon for the exact date). That doesn't mean a car
wouldn't be painted in every color of the rainbow to satisfy a customer. Also
if gold is unavailable white will substitute but gold on black has been and
is the standard. In fact our steering team voted a couple years back to
retain it despite the cost variance! Sometimes if stenciling is faded a
railroad will restencil with white. Sometimes a customer wants white. Some
customers (Celanese wants white on blue).Sometimes white on grey, etc, etc, etc,
Finally as general information to any who aren't aware the industry
(railroad) is moving away from stencils and to decals on all new and
repainted cars.Thats right the same idea as on beer bottles, etc. just a piece
of decal applied to the car.Who says the modellers don't mirror reality!
We've had some real interesting downstream incidents(stories) as a result.
Like different #'s on one car, decals falling off, etc.
Leo
