Michael,
It is always nice to exchange email with a fellow modeler interested in the
Q. In answer to your first question, the Redbird Scheme is the same as the
Chinese Red. Q Fans refer to the Chinese Red scheme in this manner as a
contrast to the Blackbird scheme that preceded it. The Blackbird design
incorporated the Black and Grey. Very early switchers (Pre-WWII) were often
painted in basic black.
As for your question regarding tractors, I looked briefly for a few photos
of the trucking operations and only could find trailers. I am forwarding
this email to the BRHS List. The list is monitored and read by over 300
CB&Q fans, employees (both current and former) and many Historical Society
Members. I am sure that one or more will be able to tell you make, model
year, color and virtually any other detail you are looking for. I would
also suggest you consider joining the list. It is identified on the Society
Home Page and is free of charge. Check it out!!
Regards,
Tom Koch

This question is gonna mark me as a complete newcomer to the CB&Q (which I
am). I'm thinking of adding some Q bridge traffic to my layout-in-progress.
On one of the latest P2K diesels, the ads list a CB&Q "redbird" scheme. Is
that the same as the post-1958 Chinese red scheme that you list? If not,
what was the redbird & when was it in use?
Come to think of it, another question, though this one might not be up your
street. I have the Microscale CB&Q tractor-trailer decals on back order.
Assuming they come in someday, any idea what types of tractors the Q used?
Thanks much for any help.
