Greetings from cloudy San Diego!
I just saw the following on the Railway Preservation News briefs section,
thought you all might be interested
The Illinois Railway Museum received two fully restored freight cars in late
2000. The first is Pan-Am Petroleum / American Oil (AMOX) #9499, a tank car
built in 1912 by Pennsylvania Car Company. #9499, which is former Pan-Am
Corp (PACX) #108, has high-mounted running boards and unusual cast Vulcan
trucks with non-integral journal boxes. It is the oldest tank car at IRM.
The car was completely restored by Amoco and donated to IRM.
The second car is Trailer Train (TTX) piggyback car #470902. This is part of
the "first generation" of TTX piggyback cars, and was one of ten built in
1955 by the Chicago Burlington & Quincy. It has a single-piece cast steel
frame and a wooden deck. It is painted in the original TTX boxcar red with
white lettering. This car was completely restored by General American
Transportation (GATX) prior to donation to IRM, and adds a historically
significant artifact to IRM's freight car collection. (Frank Hicks)

John Lewis
