Last week I was in Manchester, Georgia (CSX territory) and watched a unit coal
train of standard 100-ton loaded hoppers roll through headed towards Waycross.
The reporting marks were "NYC". I would be glad to tell you that I had gone
back in time, but I don't think I did. Will anyone tell us what "NYC" refers to
these days? One of the car numbers was #508301.
Also, while in Manchester I saw a peculiar car and was wondering if anyone
could tell me its heritage. The car was CSX #291171, a three-bay 40? hopper.
What made it peculiar is that it HAD PLATFORMS AT EACH END, as would a waycar.
It was in a string of regular three-bay coal hoppers. Will anyone tell us
something about it?
