My bet is that Kosher meat did not travel by rail post slaughter. Remember the slaughtering facility/butcher was in virtually every town. Kosher meat and poultry is still slaughtered in Chicago for the local shops same for New York and northern NJ. There was a piece on Maryland PBS yesterday on Kosher shopping. The first widely distributed commercial Kosher product was Heinz vegetarian baked beans. Bill Uffelman |
