Palmyra, Missouri historian and railfan Corby Jacobs passed away last Monday
morning. His love of trains was chronicled in Trains magazine a few years
ago...he inspected every train that passed his house and would call the
Burlington if he spotted a problem. More than once, a potential accident was
averted due to his diligence. In gratitude, the crews pitched in one year
and bought an authentic CB&Q train set for the Jacobs family, stopping a
train on the crossing next to his house and presenting it to the family.

At night, Corb would stand at the window and wave his flashlight to the
crews in the waycar, letting them know all was well. They would respond with
a wave of their light and a "Highball to the Mailman" on the radio.

He served his country in the Army Air Corps in World War Two, and his
community as Postmaster and Chief of the Volunteer Fire Department. He will
be missed.

Regards,
John Lewis
