Hi,
Naplate was served by both roads. The Rock Island and the Q connected near
the I&M canal just south of the RI yard. The current sand plant is just
south of where the two roads connected. In Naplate there was once a loading
mill just to the north of the main East/West street after crossing the
tracks going west. Just before entering the LOF plant two tracks diverged to
the right (west) to serve Ottawa Silica's Mill C. This facility had a unique
pyramid structure. Not sure what else might have been shipped from LOF
besides automotive glass.

How did the RI get to Naplatte? The only trackage that I have seen is what
I assumed to be the ex-Q line currently operated by Illinois RailNet. Did
the Q and RI share the same tracks?

Going to dinner on Fri at Mi Casa in Naplatte.Of course since its an
anniversary I will not mention or look at the former Libby Owens plant
across
the street or talk RR. Does anybody have info.on the volumes in and out of
the plant and what was shipped out other than auto windshields? Plant was
served by both Q and RI. Leo
