I just received my CB&Q 0-8-0's. Really quite exquisite in detail and
running quality. No need to cover or remove the coal pusher on the tender
as Life-Like has thoughtfully not installed it. Comparing the model to the
few prototype pictures I have, it looks very close. I don't even know if I
will change the headlight. The red fire hose box on the left side might be
a nice addition, but overall I think it looks great just like it is. Will
need some coal load to cover the molded on load to make it look more real,
plus it will need some light weathering. Sliding cab windows are cool. So
is the green interior color in the cab.
My only complaint, and a minor one, is that the ad in the magazines says the
engine has constant and directional lighting. It is definitely directional,
but arguably constant. On the two I have, neither develops much of a
headlight glow at anything less than fairly full throttle. The P2K diesels
seem to light up much better.
One question for the group. There is a small black piece that came in a
separate little bag, This piece appears to be a bridge piece to put over
the airpump to act as part of the walkway. Am I correct? There is nothing
in the instructions about it. Did all of the Q F-1's have this little
walkway over the air pump? It seems that one photo I have of the left side
does not show anything over the air pump.
Thanks for any input. John Sauer.
