Hi, Tim.
There were very few side door cabooses to begin with. Some made it to the merger. I will need to look up exactly which ones.. Several other wooden cabooses made it to the merger as well. Some in mineral red and some in Chinese red. There were even a few that were painted all green as an experimental scheme just before the merger. NE-1, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 12, 12A and 13 classes were represented at the end. If you are looking at wooden cabooses, I strongly recomend obtaining a recent Challenger NE. They have Done NE-1, 6, 7 and 9, all wooden classes. Most are painted in the later mineral red scheme with no black background in the herald. A few are painted in the "older" scheme with the black background. A few are in the Chineese red scheme. All these schemes made it to the end. Other than the car number (I know I don't care with my fleet) all the recent Challenger waycars are correct right up to the end. I love this because I get to use the same waycars with steam or late Q diesels. They show up on mainline through freights in many photos and videos right up to the end. Did I mention these are the best looking cabooses that anybody has ever done for any road? I now have 7 and look for more at bargan prices. Average price is $160 to $170. They list for $200. They are all over the web today. (Let me know if you need help finding one.) IMO, don't wast time or money on any other way car model unless you realy, realy just have to paint your own. Then you can look at Orientals. ( What's your time worth?) The Orientals occasionally go for less than $125. They have less detail than the Challenger but if you find a cheap one, it may be worth buying if you must have a green one. LMB, Signal House, Lambert and I think Nickel Plate Products all have major errors and crude details. I sold the ones I modified so I could buy more Challengers. As for the cars on ebay, the LMB and Signal House have incorect details. The side door had replacement trucks that are vastly different from the prototype. The steel NE-12 was decaled wrong but the NE-10 was OK. I got that one. BTW, I have virtually all the Q books and stuff here. I'll gladly look stuff up for you. Steve
