The following is an email received by Steve Holding. There was a photo of
the depot also sent which I've uploaded to the Files area of Egroups (cedar
street depot#2). Please reply to all if you can assist.
Dear Mr. Holding,
My name is Craig Bump. I live in Lewistown, Illinois. I'm part of a
not-for-profit organization called The Friends of the Cedar Street Depot. We
are currently are not a very large group. There are only four of us in the
group at the present time. My father is vice-president and there are also
two ladies that are the president and the secretary-treasurer. We were able
to obtain the depot over a year ago. It was set to be torn down, but we were
able to save it. We also had to move the building 50 feet away from the
railroad tracks it sets next to. The line that runs through Lewistown is
still owned and operated by the BNSF railroad and is used mainly to haul
coal out to the local power plant from the east coast. This depot is also
currently #2 on the great American Station Foundation list of depots that
are currently being saved in the entire United States. We have a lot of work
to go to restore it to be used as a museum. Also, the narrow gauge depot
here in Lewistown has been obtained by another not-for-profit group here in
Lewistown and is also being restored. I was just wondering if you would know
where our group could possibly get pictures of the interior or old
blueprints of any old depots like the one we have here in Lewistown.
Something like that could really help in putting the interior back to the
way it used to be. My email address is clbumper@p... Thank you very
much.
