This answers an old question for me. I grew up near DeKalb and, as a young
rail fan(atic) used to diligently study my Mom's old 1956 Rand McNally world
atlas that shows railroad tracks but not roads! I've got it in front of me
right now and, sure enough, there is a line running from Aurora to DeKalb
that, at least by the 60's, didn't exist anymore. It looks like it tied
into the C&NW yard on the East side of DeKalb which is also where the CGW
spur from Sycamore and the Milwaulkee Road spur from Kirkland tied in (I
think?!) Oh yeah, that's also where the C&NW spur originated from that
crossed the CB&Q between Shabbona and Waterman. (there, now this was related
to the Burlington Route ;-)
