I count 6 flat cars. And I count 6 "things", all even with the side of the car. But I also see what appears to be 6 similar "things", over on the other side of the car. From this, I get two "things" per car, each offset and probably overlapping. Coming to mind is a turret with a projecting gun barrel.
I am especially interesting in the semi-circular plates projecting upwards from each item. They certainly are NOT reminiscent of a gun turret.
A puzzlement, indeed.
