Thread-topic: [CBQ] CB&Q Palace Livestock Car 62508

The caption under the car diagram for class SM-7 states that 1000 cars joined the roster in 1902 and half were built in Aurora  and the other half were built by AF&C. The only visible difference between cars is that the later cars didn’t have the outside slat just below the solid upper sides. The caption for the photo states that 62605 was one of the 500 cars bult by AF&C. All this information in on page 57 of BB#25. The roster on page 106 lists 6200-62499 built in Aurora and 62500-62999 built by AF&C. Hol wrote the article, so he can confirm this information.

Nelson

Your BRHS Freight Car Roster will show that both sets of cars became SM-7 in the 1910/11 class allocation. The Roster book shows the last ORER listing as 1927 and they are not listed in the April 1928 issue – both should be on your ORER disc. Digging deep, I see that there were 8 cars left in the September 1927 issue but all had gone by the February 1928 issue.

Rupert, BB#25 states that the first 500 cars were built by CB&Q in Aurora and the last 500 cars were built by AF&C. Look at the roster table. Where did you find the off roster date, because I couldn’t find it in BB#25.

This stock car was built in 1902 by AC&F (class SM-7 62000-62999), and they were all off the roster by 1928. I have a copy of a December 1914 instruction, provided by Archie Hayden, from the Superintendent of Motive Power, Lines East, to Master Mechanics and Shop Superintendents, to continue painting out “Palace Stock” on stock cars as “Some exceptions have been taken to this stenciling…….. “, possibly from Pullman.
