Hi Mike,

Your personal account of the way slow orders were handled really made clear to me the way things worked.  I kind of figured that the slows just went away or if really important enough perhaps became bulletins or general orders.

Thanks for the help

In my experience with train orders on the Alliance Division in the '70s, when the responsible track person 'took down' a slow order, it just went away.  I don't remember ever getting an order annulling a slow order.  Our slow orders usually had a long list of 'slows', sometimes ten or a dozen on one order, and when one came off, they would issue a new order without it.  If you were carrying an order for one that had been removed, and didn't see the flags, you'd call the Dispatcher, and he'd tell you that it was no longer in effect.  Sometimes, we would sit for hours between train order stations, and the Company didn't like having to pay the crew for an order delivered over the radio for that kind of thing.

I have no idea what kind of paperwork went on in the Dispatchers' office.

Mike
