I think there must have been as neither of the NALX “spray cars” appear to be self-propelled.  The recent photo of the track oiler showed, from memory, a GP-7 or similar three or four cars back with a way car at the rear. I suspect that the rear end of the “spray car” contained pumping and maintenance equipment.

Rupert,

Thanks for posting (as always).  Is there a "motor" at the back of that train?  I didn't see anything in recent discussions about the sprayers being self-propelled.

Following on from the recent discussion about weed spraying, there is a colour photo of NALX 118 spraying on the Burlington in 1963,  eBay item 380822004328
