Ray,

You are correct except for a fine point of clarification .The "quick clean up" on the dinkies in CUS was only on off  rush hour(late night) trains. Everything else was backed out to the coach yard.

When trains from the west came into CUS, doesn't matter if it was the NCL, EB, CZ, TCZ, etc or even a suburban run, all the trains entered CUS engine first. AFTER all the passengers disembarked, the consist was backed out, with switcher engines used on the long haul trains (NCL, EB, TCZ etc.)

After they were turned around, cleaned and ready for the next run west bound, they were backed in, most often by a switcher. Then the E units were brought in to make ready for the westbound run.

In suburban service, the push-pull trains usually operated with the engine heading westbound and the galley cab cars operated eastbound, most but not all the time. When they arrived at CUS, galley cab cars first in, they often remained at the platform, did a quick clean up and then headed out westbound on the next suburban schedule.

I road the Q between Berwyn and CUS 3 times a week, sometimes more often, between 1953 to 1959. Have taken many photos along the 3 track "race track" and remember this well.

As the NP/GN had the Q in their pocket for about a decade at that point, why the _NCL_ was going over the North Western is a bit confusing. Does anyone know what date the _NCL_ shifted over to the Q?
