Azenaville hill south of Beardstown used yard engines out of Beardstown as
pushers on southward time freights. The working agreement provided "pushing and
pulling limits" at that point meaning that yard crews could push trains over
the hill. These were not true helpers but were another interesting operation.
BTW, the L-1's were also used at Platsmouth, NE (as pushers out of the Missouri
River Valley) for a period of time. In the BN era, Beardstown yard engines
pushed "cowboy" coal trains over the hill.

Considering the territory the Q operated in. Was there a place on the system
that required helpers regularly because of the grade? I don't think I've seen
or read anything about this.
